Regarded to be one of the most prolific and recognised Punjabi singers in the world, Sutton Coldfield based Malkit Singh was awarded the prestigious MBE in the 2008 New Year’s Honours list. Born and raised in the village Hussainpur, in the district of Nakodar in Jalandhar, Punjab, Malkit has sustained a 28-year plus career as a Punjabi singer who has broken barriers and carried the sound of Bhangra across the globe.
As the first Asian recipient of a Broad Street Walk of Stars award in 2012, Malkit Singh has received a number of prestigious and unique awards over the years including being listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the Biggest Selling Bhangra Artist of all time with sales of over 4.9 million and in 1997, The Recognition of the City of Los Angeles for Services to the Indian Community.
Malkit’s song ‘Jind Mahi’ featured in the 2002 worldwide smash hit film ‘Bend It Like Beckham’ while he is probably the only Bhangra artist in history to have performed in Spain over 10 times over! Malkit Singh’s has most recently released his third Dharmik (religious) album called ‘Sikh Hon Da Maan’ (Proud To Be a Sikh) and donated a sizeable amount from the proceeds of the album to the All India Pingalwara Charitable Society (AIPCS) in Amritsar.
